Core Application Scenarios of 3D Printed Soft Plastic Molds
3D printed soft plastic molds are low-cost, rapid-molding tools made from flexible, soft plastic materials. Their core advantages are fast development, low cost, and flexible adaptation to product iterations. Their core application scenarios are as follows:
1. Small-batch thermoforming/vacuum forming:
Used in conjunction with thermoforming and vacuum adsorption processes to process thermoplastic sheets such as ABS and PETG. Suitable for customized packaging, craft shells, and small-batch trial production of parts. Development cycles are reduced from several weeks with traditional CNC to 1-3 days, and costs are only 1/10 to 1/20 of metal molds.
2. Low-pressure injection/casting molds:
Used for small-batch production of silicone and polyurethane products. Soft molds are easier to demold, especially suitable for parts with undercuts and complex structures, allowing for rapid production of finished products without the need for hard molds.
3. Cushioning/sealing mold components:
Utilizing the elasticity of soft plastics for mold sealing and positioning cushioning structures, used in conjunction with hard molds, improves product yield.
