Key Points of Plastic Crate Mold Structure Design

plastic crate mold

The structural design of plastic crate molds needs to comprehensively consider product characteristics, molding process, production efficiency and mold life. The key points include parting surface, pouring system, cooling system, demoulding mechanism and structural optimization.

1. Parting surface design

Position selection: The parting surface should be set on the smooth surface or arc surface of the plastic part to avoid flash and overflow.

Sealing: The parting surface needs to be designed with a boss or groove (depth 0.5-1mm) to prevent melt leakage with an O-ring.

2. Optimization of pouring system

Gate type: Side gate is suitable for ordinary plastic crates, latent gate is used for automated production, and point gate is used for multi-cavity molds.

Runner layout: Multi-cavity molds need to be designed with unbalanced runners, combined with gate size adjustment to ensure that each cavity is filled synchronously to avoid poor welding.

Hot runner application: The hot runner system can reduce waste by 15%-30%, but it needs to increase temperature control accuracy (±1℃) and mold cost (about 20%-40%).

3. Cooling system design

Water channel layout: Multi-circuit cooling channels are used, with a hole diameter of ≥8mm, and the upper and lower cavity plates and the movable and fixed templates are butt-sealed.

Conformal water channel: For plastic crates with complex structures, 3D printing technology can be used to manufacture conformal water channels, which can increase cooling efficiency by 40% and shorten the molding cycle by 20%.

Water temperature control: Crystalline plastics requires low-temperature cooling (10-20℃), and non-crystalline plastics requires high-temperature cooling (40-60℃) to reduce internal stress.

4. Demolding mechanism design

Ejection method: Ordinary plastic crates can be ejected by ejector pins; boxes with text or logos need to be ejected by ejector blocks to avoid ejector marks; deep cavity boxes need to be ejected by sleeves or pneumatic ejectors to prevent deformation.

Slanted ejector and slider: If the plastic crate has an undercut structure, a tilted ejector (angle ≤15°) or a slider mechanism needs to be designed to ensure smooth demolding.

Secondary demolding: For high-precision plastic crates, a secondary demolding mechanism can be used to eject the product first and then demold it to reduce deformation.

Qingdao Xueyu Molding Products Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the design and manufacturing of injection molds, injection molding and secondary processing (spraying, pad printing, ultrasonic welding, stamping), etc. For more information about plastic crate mold, please contact us.
