Customization Requirements for Injection Molding Automotive Parts

injection molding automotive parts

Custom requirements for injection molding automotive parts can be divided into three core dimensions: qualification compliance, technical specifications, and full-process control, fully adapting to the stringent supporting standards of new energy vehicles.

1. Basic Qualification Compliance Requirements

Core System Certification: IATF 16949 automotive industry quality system certification is mandatory, a prerequisite for entering the supply chain of mainstream automakers. ISO 9001 basic quality management system certification is also required.

Material Traceability Requirements: All raw materials must use automotive-grade modified materials. The addition of unknown recycled materials is strictly prohibited. A complete MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and UL yellow card must be provided to ensure material traceability.

2. Customized Requirements for Core Technical Indicators

Precision Tolerance Requirements: Standard external dimensional tolerances ≤ ±0.1mm; tolerances for key precision structures such as clips and sealing surfaces must be controlled within ±0.05mm; some core components can achieve ±0.001mm precision; key dimensions Cpk/Ppk ≥ 1.33; high-pressure components ≥ 1.67.

Mold Performance Requirements: Customized mold cavity tolerances must reach ±0.01mm; surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.8um; mold life must meet 500,000-2,000,000 cycles, adapting to the high-volume, stable production needs of the automotive industry.

Molding Process Requirements: Mold temperature fluctuations must be controlled within ±1℃; after injection molding, hold pressure for 3-8 seconds before starting cooling; the production workshop ambient temperature must be stable between 22℃-26℃, with temperature fluctuations not exceeding ±2℃; ensuring a batch pass rate consistently above 98%.

3. Scenario-Specific Customization Requirements

New Energy Three-Electric Components: Battery pack housings, BMS connectors, and other components must meet requirements for flame retardancy, insulation, and resistance to electrolyte corrosion. They must be able to withstand high and low temperature cycling shocks from -40℃ to 125℃ and meet waterproof and dustproof standards.

Interior and Exterior Trim Components: Graded appearance control is adopted. Grade A visible surfaces must be free of defects such as shrinkage, bubbles, and color differences. Products in the same batch must have uniform color. Interior trim parts must meet low-odor and low-VOC environmental standards, while exterior trim parts must possess UV resistance, weather resistance, and anti-yellowing properties.

Functional Structural Components: Chassis and powertrain peripheral structural components must pass high-frequency vibration and load fatigue tests, meet impact resistance standards, and prevent cracking and deformation issues after long-term use.

4. Delivery and Collaborative Customization Requirements

Cycle Collaboration: Mold development cycle is typically 3-6 months, non-standard customized parts prototyping cycle is 3-5 days, bulk orders are delivered in 7-15 days, and expedited orders can be compressed to within 7 days, adapting to the rapid iteration production rhythm of automakers.

End-to-End Collaboration: Suppliers must provide end-to-end services including mold flow analysis, product design optimization, trial molding verification, and mass production follow-up, deeply collaborating with customers in product development and assembly.

Data Retention Requirements: Temperature control curves, process parameters, and other data for each batch of production must be fully retained for at least 36 months. This allows for rapid tracing of the root cause in case of quality issues, reducing the risk of recalls.

Qingdao Xueyu Molding Products Co., Ltd. is mainly engaged in the design and manufacturing of injection molds, injection molding and secondary processing (spraying, pad printing, ultrasonic welding, stamping), etc. For more information about injection molding automotive parts, please contact us.
