Recommendations for Selecting Aluminum Injection Molds
Aluminum injection molds are injection molds made primarily of aluminum alloy. Their lightweight, high thermal conductivity, and excellent machinability give them unique advantages in specific production scenarios. The following analysis focuses on selection recommendations:
1. Production Volume Priority
Small batches (<50,000 cycles): Prioritize aluminum alloys to reduce costs and respond quickly to the market.
Large batches (>500,000 cycles): Steel molds are still necessary to ensure wear resistance and lifespan.
2. Product Precision and Surface Requirements
High-gloss, transparent products: Select aluminum alloys with excellent polishing performance and a surface roughness Ra < 0.02 μm.
General structural parts: Aluminum alloys with higher cost-effectiveness can be selected to meet general precision requirements.
3. Plastic Type Compatibility
Molding corrosive plastics such as PVC and POM: Corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys are required, or stainless steel inserts can be used in certain areas.
Molding glass fiber reinforced plastics: Aluminum molds have insufficient wear resistance; steel molds or hard chrome plating are recommended.
4. Mold Structure Complexity
Deep-cavity, thin-walled molds: Aluminum alloys are easy to machine and have minimal deformation, making them suitable for complex structures.
Simple-structure molds: Costs can be further reduced by using carbon tool steel or pre-hardened steel.
