Core Principles of Clear Plastic Injection Mold Design

Clear plastic injection molds are precision molds specifically designed for producing transparent plastic products. Through the injection molding process, thermoplastics are processed into products with high transparency, high finish, and precise dimensions. The core design principles are as follows:

1. Wall Thickness Uniformity and Draft Angle

Wall thickness variations can lead to uneven cooling, causing sink marks, deformation, or stress cracking. It is recommended that wall thickness deviations be controlled within ±0.1mm, and the draft angle should be adjusted based on the material's fluidity.

2. Runner and Gate Design

Runners: Use wide, short, and thick structures to minimize pressure loss. For PMMA, the recommended runner diameter is ≥8mm, and for PC, ≥10mm.

Gating: Fan-shaped or point-shaped gates are preferred, and their location should avoid the product's exterior surface. For PC, the gate length should be ≤1mm to reduce shear heating.

Cold Slug Well: A cold slug well should be located at the end of the main runner, with a diameter 1.5 times the runner diameter, to prevent cold slug from entering the mold cavity. 3. Exhaust System Optimization

The exhaust groove depth should be adjusted according to the material properties to prevent gas stagnation that can cause burning or silver streaks.

4. Cooling System Layout

A conformal cooling channel design is used. The recommended distance between the cooling channel and the cavity surface is 1.5-2 times the wall thickness to ensure uniform cooling.
