Main Plastic Product Manufacturing Processes
Plastic product manufacturing processes are diverse, each with its unique characteristics and applicable scenarios. Below are some of the main plastic product manufacturing processes:
1. Injection Molding:
Principle: Molten plastic is injected under pressure into a precisely designed mold cavity, and after cooling and solidification, the desired shape of the plastic product is obtained.
Characteristics: High production efficiency, high product precision, good dimensional consistency; suitable for producing complex and diverse parts.
Applications: Widely used in the automotive, electronics, home appliance, and medical industries, such as plastic toys, electronic product casings, and automotive parts.
2. Extrusion Molding:
Principle: Plastic raw materials are heated and melted in an extruder, and then continuously extruded through a die of a specific shape to form plastic products of various cross-sectional shapes.
Characteristics: Good production continuity, high efficiency, and low cost; suitable for producing continuous-shaped plastic products.
Applications: Commonly used in the production of plastic pipes, profiles, filaments, cable insulation, etc., such as plastic water pipes and door and window frames commonly seen in the construction industry.
3. Blow Molding:
Principle: A tubular plastic preform, obtained by extrusion or injection molding of thermoplastic resin, is placed hot into a split mold. After the mold is closed, compressed air is immediately introduced into the preform, causing it to inflate and adhere tightly to the inner wall of the mold. After cooling, it is demolded to obtain various hollow products.
Features: Highly efficient for producing hollow plastic products; suitable for various types of thermoplastics.
Applications: Commonly used for producing bottles, barrels, cans, containers, and other hollow products, such as beverage bottles, cosmetic bottles, and household cleaning product bottles.
4. Vacuum Forming:
Principle: A flat, rigid plastic sheet is heated until softened, then vacuum-formed onto the surface of a mold. After cooling, it is formed.
Features: Achieves precise shaping through negative pressure, enabling the creation of tightly fitting packaging according to the product's shape.
Applications: Commonly used for making food packaging boxes, blister trays for electronic products, etc.
5. Compression Molding:
Principle: Powdered, granular, or fibrous plastic is placed into a mold cavity at the molding temperature, then the mold is closed and pressure is applied to shape and solidify it.
Features: Relatively simple production equipment, low investment cost, suitable for producing rigid, high-performance plastic products.
Applications: Commonly used in the production of plastic sheets, housings, capacitors, motor parts, kitchen utensils, etc.
6. Rotational Molding:
Principle: Metered plastic (liquid or powder) is added to a mold. After the mold is closed, it rotates along two perpendicular axes and is heated. Under the action of gravity and heat, the plastic material inside the mold gradually and evenly coats, melts, and adheres to the entire surface of the mold cavity, forming a shape identical to the cavity. After cooling and solidification, the product of the desired shape is obtained.
Features: Capable of producing large, seamless, hollow products, suitable for manufacturing large containers, etc.
Applications: Commonly used in the manufacturing of large storage tanks, amusement facilities, etc.
7. Drip Molding:
Principle: Liquid material is injected into a mold using compressed air, then baked at high temperature before demolding to form the final shape.
Characteristics: Allows for the combination of different colors and materials to create diverse visual effects, but processing precision is relatively low.
Applications: Commonly used for decorating trademarks, nameplates, cards, everyday hardware products, tourist souvenir badges, fine handicrafts, and high-end notebook covers.
