What are the Types of Plastic Molding Processes?

Plastic moulding process is a technique that transforms plastic raw materials into products with desired shapes and properties through physical or chemical methods. Based on the molding principle, equipment, and application scenarios, types of plastic moulding process can be categorized as follows:

1. Injection Molding

The plastic raw material is heated to a molten state and injected into a mold cavity under high pressure. After cooling and solidification, it is demolded to produce the finished product.

2. Extrusion

After the plastic raw material is heated and melted, it is extruded through a specifically shaped die using a screw to form a continuous profile (such as a pipe or sheet).

3. Blow Molding

A molten plastic preform (parison) is placed in a mold and inflated with compressed air until it conforms to the mold's inner wall. After cooling, it is demolded to produce a hollow product.

4. Calendering

Thermoplastics are passed through a gap between multiple sets of rotating rollers, where they are pressed into a thin sheet or film under pressure and temperature.

5. Compression Molding

Thermosetting plastics (such as phenolic resins and epoxy resins) are pre-pressed into a blank, placed in a heated mold, pressurized and solidified, and demolded to produce the finished product.

6. Thermoforming

Thermoplastic sheets are heated to a softened state and then pressed into place using vacuum or mechanical pressure. After cooling, the mold is released to produce the finished product.

7. 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing)

Three-dimensional objects are constructed by layering plastic materials (such as PLA, ABS, and nylon) without the need for molds.
