The manufacturing process of plastic mold parts is a complex and meticulous process involving multiple stages and technologies. The following is a detailed introduction to the manufacturing process of plastic mold parts:

1. Design Stage

Accepting the Task: The task for molding the plastic part is usually proposed by the part designer, including part drawings, technical requirements, production volume, and sample information.

Data Processing: Collect and organize relevant data on part design, molding processes, molding equipment, machining, and special processing for use in mold design.

Mold Design: Based on the part drawings and technical requirements, perform 3D modeling and parting line design of the mold, determining the mold's structural form, number of cavities, and parting line location.

2. Material Selection and Preparation

Material Selection: Select suitable mold steel based on the mold's usage requirements, such as P20 steel or 718H steel. These steels should possess good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and heat treatment properties.

Material Preparation: Pre-treat the selected steel through cutting, forging, etc., to obtain a mold blank that meets the requirements.

3. Mold Base Machining

Rough Machining: Using milling, grinding, and other machining methods, the mold base is roughly machined to achieve basic structural accuracy. Flatness is typically controlled within ±0.02mm.

Fine Machining: Based on rough machining, CNC machining, EDM, and other techniques are used to complete the precision machining of the mold base.

4. Mold Core and Cavity Machining

CNC Machining: Using a CNC milling machine, the mold core and cavity are rough and fine machined to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality.

EDM: For complex curved surfaces and difficult-to-machine areas, EDM technology is used to obtain the desired shape through electrical discharge etching. Accuracy can reach ±0.005mm.

Wire EDM: Using a wire EDM machine, the mold core and cavity are cut to obtain precise dimensions and shapes.

5. Heat Treatment

Quenching: The mold parts are heated above the critical temperature, held at that temperature for a certain time, and then rapidly cooled to improve the hardness and wear resistance of the parts.

Tempering: After quenching, tempering is performed to eliminate quenching stress and improve the toughness and stability of the parts. The tempering temperature and time are determined according to the material type and hardness requirements.

Surface Treatment: As needed, mold parts undergo surface treatments such as chrome plating and nitriding to further improve their wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

6. Precision Machining

Polishing: The mold cavity and core surfaces are polished to improve surface smoothness and reduce surface defects and friction.

Wire EDM Corner Clearing: For corners that are difficult to reach by CNC machining, wire EDM technology is used for corner clearing to ensure the integrity of the mold cavity.

7. Mold Assembly and Debugging

Assembly: The machined mold parts are assembled according to design requirements to ensure the fitting accuracy and movement flexibility between components.

Debugging: After assembly, the mold is debugged to check whether the mold opening and closing actions, ejection mechanism, cooling system, etc., are working properly. Any problems found are adjusted and repaired in a timely manner.

8. Trial Molding and Adjustment

Trial Molding: The debugged mold is installed on the injection molding machine for trial production. Observe the molding process of the finished product, checking whether the dimensional accuracy and surface quality meet the requirements.

Adjustment: Based on the trial molding results, make necessary adjustments and optimizations to the mold, such as modifying the gate position and adjusting the cooling system, to improve product quality and production efficiency.
