Common Defects and Solutions in Clear Plastic Injection Molds
Clear plastic injection molds are specialized molds used to produce high-transparency plastic products. Their design, material selection, and process control are crucial to the optical properties and surface quality of the final product. Below are common defects in clear plastic injection molds and their solutions:
1. Silver streaks:
Causes: Caused by the anisotropy of internal stress during mold filling and solidification. Stress generated in the vertical direction causes resin to flow and orient, resulting in a different refractive index compared to non-flowing orientation, thus creating shimmering streaks.
Solutions: Appropriately increase molding temperature, injection pressure, and mold temperature; improve runner design; reselect gate location; anneal the product.
2. Bubbles and vacuum bubbles:
Causes: Formed due to the inability to expel moisture and other gases from the resin, or due to insufficient mold filling and excessively rapid solidification of the surface.
Solutions: Pre-dry the raw material; appropriately reduce molding temperature; increase injection pressure; extend holding time; increase mold temperature.
3. Poor surface gloss:
Causes: May be caused by excessively low melt temperature, excessively low injection pressure, excessively low mold temperature, or poor surface finish of the mold cavity.
Solution: Increase molding temperature, injection pressure, and mold temperature; grind and polish the mold surface to improve its smoothness.
