The design and manufacture of PLA plastic injection molds need to be combined with the characteristics of PLA materials, focusing on mold material selection, structural design, process parameter optimization and defect handling. The following is a specific analysis:

1. Mold material selection: When high-temperature molding is required, the mold is required to use top-notch S136 material. If heat-resistant products are produced, the mold must be connected to water and oil circuits, so that it can be cooled and heated. Accurately controlling the mold temperature is an important factor in preventing warping and deformation. It is recommended to use hot runner molds.

2. Key points of mold design: The product shape design should be as smooth and regular as possible, and sharp corners should be avoided as much as possible. PLA is very sensitive to notches, and stress concentration is prone to occur at sharp corners during molding; arc transitions should be applied at the intersection of planes, and the arc radius should be as large as possible; the mold demolding slope should be greater than 1° so that it can be demolded smoothly. The mold exhaust must be good, and do not design a mold with multiple cavities. The ejection of the product must be completed by the ejector and the air cap.

3. Injection molding process parameters: When the shape structure of the injection molded product is relatively complex and the wall thickness is small, a higher injection pressure should be used. When the viscosity of the injection molded product is high and the glass transition temperature is high, a higher injection pressure should be used. The internal stress of the molded product with a higher injection pressure is also large, and it is easy to deform after molding. Such products should be annealed after molding. If the temperature of the plasticized melt is high, the injection pressure of the melt should be appropriately reduced, otherwise the injection pressure should be appropriately increased.

4. Common defects and solutions: Under-injection may be caused by improper equipment selection, insufficient feed, poor material fluidity, excessive lubricant, cold material impurities blocking the material channel, unreasonable gating system design, too low mold temperature, too low melt temperature, insufficient injection pressure or holding pressure, etc. Overflow flash may be caused by insufficient clamping force, too high material temperature, etc.
