What Parts Does an Injection Mold Consist of?

Injection mold primarily consist of a movable mold and a fixed mold. The movable mold is mounted on the movable platen of the injection molding machine, while the fixed mold is mounted on the fixed platen. During injection molding, the movable and fixed molds close together to form the gating system and the mold cavity. When the mold is opened, the movable and fixed molds separate to facilitate removal of the plastic product. While mold structure may vary greatly depending on the type and properties of the plastic, the shape and structure of the plastic product, and the type of injection molding machine, its basic structure remains the same, consisting of the following components:

1. Gating system: This refers to the flow path of the plastic before it enters the mold cavity from the nozzle. It includes the main runner, cold well, branch runners, and gate. The gating system is a set of feed channels that guide the plastic melt from the injection molding machine nozzle into the mold cavity.

2. Temperature control system: This regulates the mold temperature to ensure smooth filling, solidification, and finalization of the plastic melt within the mold cavity. Mold temperature has a significant impact on the flow of the plastic melt during filling, solidification, production efficiency, and the shape and dimensional accuracy of the molded part. 3. Molding Parts: These components form the mold cavity and primarily determine the geometry and dimensions of the molded part. For example, the punch determines the part's internal shape, the die determines its external shape, and the threaded core determines its internal threads.

4. Structural Parts: These components are used to mount, secure, or support the molded parts and other mechanisms and devices, such as the fixed mold base, fixed platen, movable platen, and movable mold base.
